Journey of Self Realisation - A glimpse into Samadhis-patanjali yogasutras

The space that holds you is the same space that holds the sun, the moon, and the stars.
And in rare moments of serenity, you can see the one who holds it all.

Witches call it *spell.*
Religion calls it *Spirit*
Science calls it *Energy*
On streets, we call it *Vibes*
Indian Philosophy calls it *Chaitanya/ consciousness, Atman/ Self*
Vedanta calls it *Brahman/ Shiva/ishwara*
Eastern philosophy calls it *Tao/dao, Qi/ki.*
Ancient wisdom calls it *Prana/ shakthi*
Greeks call it *Logos*
Psychology calls it *Collective unconscious*
Some call it *God, universe, cosmos*

Various names.
But nobody denies its existence.

Mind is impulsive.
It goes behind likes and dislikes.
Intellect(Buddhi) discriminates.
It goes behind right and wrong.
This is duality.

In complete presence, silence, you will see the one holding the space.
Oneness. Non-duality.

For that you need.
Sama Buddhi - equanimity.
Patanjali calls it Samadhi.
Krishna calls it Sthitaprajnya(equanimity)

If intellect receives guidance from the Self, it goes in the right direction.
Otherwise, the intellect follows the mind.

Samadhi means Sama buddhi.

There are 8 different types of Samadhis as per patanjali.

They are divided into:

1. Samprajnata samadhi - practicing equanimity with Prajna./ conscious practice.

2. Asamprajnata samadhi - seedless absorption. Meaning all samskaras get burnt here.

Samprajnata samadhi is divided into:

1. Savichara samadhi - with enquiry. Observing your actions/ thoughts, objects.

2. Savitarka samadhi - with reasoning

3. Savikalpa samadhi - reflection

4. Sananda samadhi - focus on subtle thoughts rather than physical objects.

5. Asmita Samadhi - strip away the subtle joy also. I-ness, pure ego awareness.

6. Nirvichara samadhi

7. Nirvitarka samadhi

8. Nirvikalpa samadhi

Samadhi means concentration as per Patanjali.
Also called as - Sama buddhi or equanimity.

His Yoga Sutras start with Samadhi/ concentration.
What are the uses of concentration?
What causes difficulties in concentration?
How to overcome them?
Step-by-step approach.

Second chapter is Sadhana pada.
How to practice concentration

Third chapter is Vibuthi pada.
What are the powers you get through practicing concentration/ equanimity

Fourth chapter is Kaivalya.
He says don’t stop at powers.
Continue the practice.
Then you will be left with - Kevala
That kevala - what is left is
*Kaivalya*

Due to the Theory of Superimposition, Adhyasa - the words meditation, intellect, and Self are understood differently by different people.

Vijnana bairava tantra defines 112 different techniques of meditation.
To remain in an equanimous state.
