How to instil the right habits in children?

How do we instil the right values in our children?

Children are like small plants. They will grow on their own provided we nurture them with the right soil, water, and sunlight.
Parents should be like the fence around the kids. Protect them from unwanted elements of the society. Like how a Fence protects a plant from the cows eating them, or somebody else plucking them. But the Fence doesn’t touch the plant, it gives space for the plant to grow on its own.

How do we do it?
Make sure the environment in the house is nurturing. Parents should stop watching TV and stop discussing all the negative news, gossiping etc. Stop negative habits and start positive habits. Provide the right culture. It is like culturing them, cultivating them, without they knowing.

How do we do it?

1. Keep the right books around the house, not inside the cupboard. Keep the books on the dining table, in the living room, in the bed room, so they can pick them up easily and read them instead of going through TV or Phone.

2. Put the right quotes, messages, and proverbs around the house on the walls and keep talking about the wisdom in them.

3. Play light classical music in the background in the office and at home, all the time. The music will increase the positive vibrations and will engage the mind and not allow the mind to think of negative news.

4. From a young age, put the kids into classical dance, music, art classes etc. So they are in the right direction and their minds will get cultivated with the wisdom in the songs, art etc.

5. Eat vegetarian, homemade fresh food. Eat more fruits and vegetables. Don’t buy outside food. Don’t buy cakes, chocolates, biscuits. Eat in silence. No watching TV. Remove the TV from the house. Remove the newspapers. Remove everything that causes negativity and drains our energy.
Replace them with positive energy and information.

4 S - Practise this daily.

1. Satsang - Be in the company of the right people. Their thoughts will influence you. Interact with them and learn from each other.

2. Swadhaya - Read the right books about understanding what is life and what is our purpose. Ask questions, and clarify. Plant the right seeds in the kids mind. Keep learning and growing.

3. Sadhana - Keep practising everything you are learning. Practise the truth, the right wisdom. Like we practise dance, music, art daily, practise life lessons. Practise being in silence, practice right habits, practice meditation.

4. Seva or Service - Whatever you are learning, share it with others. Seva can be giving or donating or sharing anything that you have, for the good of others. Like sharing a smile, handshake, wisdom, books, knowledge, food, thoughts, motivation, time, energy and resources and inspiring others. By sharing or doing seva, we will empty our energy and make space for fresh ideas and information to come in. Like when we draw water from a well,  new water will flow in. Otherwise, water will get stagnated.
